The Galaxy J5, S3 Neo, and J5 2016 version may not be in line for the Android Nougat update. However, Samsung July security update is now being rolled out for all three devices across Europe, and will follow worldwide.
Being nothing more than security updates, the small 90MB updates consist mostly of Google’s security patches. Although the patch does come with some optimizations from Samsung, this update is entirely based on the July 1, and not July 5 update.
Specifically, the update is expected to fix the audio service exploit. This exploit previously allowed malicious apps to access values in shared memory by enabling the audio service. It may take a couple of days until you can see the Samsung July security update for the three devices.
You can also manually check for the update for J5, S3 Neo, and J5 2016 by heading over to Settings » About Device »Software Update » Update Now. To find out more about the available update for your devices, check out the Updato Samsung firmware platform and search for your device or model number.
