Woo-hoo, March Madness is finally here! (said no one ever).'Tis the season where some of us try to avoid basketball fever like the plague that it really is.If you want to survive the month with your spirits intact, there is still hope. March Madness apps for Android don't actually have to force you to keep up with basketball; they can be a way to keep you away from the action and let you focus on what actually matters in life. You know, like Clash of Clans.

4 great apps for avoiding March Madness

There's still hope for those of us that aren't following up-to-the-minute March Madness news. Use these apps to distract yourself until March is over. You can also use them if you're at a party and need to pretend you're checking March Madness stats or something else basketball-y to fit in with jock friends.

#1: Clash Royale

Supercell doesn't focus on quantity with their games, they focus more on quality - their third title is called Clash Royale and it revolves around the charactes you know from Clash of Clans. The game is a 1v1 multiplayer confrontation, with each player having to guard three towers; destroy your opponent's center tower, or all three, to win. You have a ton of characters to help you in this endeavor and by the time you'll learn them all you'll already be hooked. So this one is one of the great Android apps for March Madness, but it'll have you playing for a long time after that.

#2: Hearthstone

If you're familiar with Blizzard's games (like World of Warcraft) you already know that there's an entire universe and millions of people who love it. Hearthstone is a card game that has a steep learning curve, but it's very fulfilling once you actually start winning.Instead of searching for the latest March Madness apps for Android, you can play a quick game of Hearthstone - and again, you'll be playing long after March has ended.

#3: theScore esports

Not all of us follow sports, but esports is a whole 'nother matter. For a pastime that's mostly played online, it's surprising how few apps there are to follow the action on your phone. If you're one of the millions of fans of games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Dota 2, this is the best app for it. Frequent updates are guaranteed to make it better, too - the devs are active and often update the app.

#4: NBA 2K16

No matter how much we try, there's no way to completely avoid March Madness, unless we go live under a rock... and that's not an alternative anybody wants. Some March Madness apps for Android are unavoidably related to basketball (sorry).  If you're going to go for one basketball app, you might as well go big and get the best.NBA 2K16 is the Android version of the popular PC, Xbox, and PS4 game made by 2K games. It's immersive, the controls are easy to master, and even though the game is played on a smaller screen it's just as bit as entertaining as the one on your PC. Plus, even if you don't follow March Madness, you'll still have something to talk about at the water cooler with the guys.Which March Madness apps for Android do you use to weather the storm?photo credit: play.google.com
