Like big phones? Really big phones? Think the Galaxy Note is a nice phone, but just not big enough? Then you might be interested in the Galaxy Mega.A device with very much mid-range specs, the Mega isn't likely to take sales away from the Galaxy Note. And without pen specific apps, or a built-in stylus, it really doesn't compete with the just announced LG G3 Stylus. What it is a solidly middle of the road phablet; one of the biggest around. With a 6 inch, 1280 x 720 display, it's not challenging anyone for the highest dots-per-inch title, and it's actually slightly smaller than the 6.3 inch monster on the original Mega. The display should be adequate, given that most people will probably hold a phone this big further from their face than they would a smaller phone. "Adequate" probably describes the rest of the phone's specs as well. Sporting a 1.4GHz quad core Exynos processor and 1.5 GHz of RAM, along with a 8 MP camera, non power users who want a big, bright screen will probably be happy. It's not the device for heavy game play, however.Other specs include a 2800 mAh battery, support for 4G LTE and NFC, 16 GB of internal storage and a micro SD slot. Appearance-wise, it borrows heavily from the Galaxy Note 3, with a faux leather back, complete with faux stitching. It's running Android KitKat, but no word on whether it's 4.4.2, 4.4.3, or 4.4.4.Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Mega 2 on September 3rd, but retailers in Thailand and Malaysia jumped the gun and already have the phablet for sale. It's expected to roll out to the rest of Asia after the announcement. There's no word on whether this device will be coming to Europe or the Western hemisphere. The first Mega wasn't a big seller in North America, but the few people we know who bought one seem to be happy with it.
