Why are there 2 LTE versions of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4? What is the difference between Galaxy S4 LTE and LTE-Advanced? Well, let me try to explain the answer to these two questions.
There is one International version of the Galaxy S4 right now, which is the GT-I9505. This was released at the beginning together with the Exynos version. Back then there was a lot misunderstanding related to these two versions, and what is the difference between them. Now we find out that Samsung has launched yet another version of the Galaxy S4, the LTE-A one, probably on the ‘the more the merrier’ principle. This one carries version number GT-I9506 and was initially released only in Korea, because it was the only place capable of providing network speeds for this kind of technology. Now we can see that the LTE-A is getting closer and closer to an international release.
Galaxy S4 LTE GT-I9505 vs. Galaxy S4 LTE-A GT-I9506
The main difference between LTE and LTE-A is the speed. LTE-Advacned is much faster than the regular LTE, capable of much greater speeds than what the regular 4G network provides. You can check out Wikipedia for a better understanding of what LTE-Advanced is.
Besides the fact that the GT-I9506 is capable of using LTE-A networks, it also has a more powerful processor. LTE-A Galaxy S4 has a Snapdragon 800 CPU, that generates 2.3 GHz of speed while the GT-I9505 has a Snapdragon 600 with only 1.9 GHz. So besides being able to run on much faster networks, the LTE-A also has a bigger CPU and is capable of performances up to 30% faster than the regular model.
The CPU along is a great improvement from the first LTE version and this could make original I9505 buyers a little bit jealous. Samsung has did all they could to get the maximum out of their flagship, launching the biggest variety of spin-offs out of all their devices. The LTE-A version though can really upset a lot of people if it will be launched with the same price as the first S4.
There is no other difference between the GT-I9505 and the GT-I9506 except for the processor, but that’s enough to make the LTE-Advanced version a lot better.
