Following Apple's release of the smaller iPhone SE, Xiaomi apparently plans to also rlease a smaller edition of its Mi 5 flagship dubbed as the Mi 5 Mini. According to media outlets in China, the smaller Xiaomi variant will be a response to the feature-packed 4-inch Apple iPhone SE. As for the features, specs, pricing and release date for the Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini, here is what to look forward to:
Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini pricing and release date
Based on the reports so far, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini could be influenced by the design language that was introduced with the Mi 2 back in 2012. While the Mi 2 hit the market with a price range of $280, perhaps the Mi 5 Mini could cost around the same amount. This would only be reasonable, considering that the much larger Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship is already available for $499, therefore it wouldn't make sense if the smaller variant it cost more.
The 4.3-inch smartphone is rumored to have a planned date release or early June this year. This would be the same frequency of unveilings and releases that Xiaomi has had in the past.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini specs
Rumors surfacing from GizChina leakers indicate that Xiaomi opted for premium hardware for its new Mi 5 device. According to the same reports, the compact Mi 5 version will run on the same Snapdragon 820 processor that's powering the manufacturer's Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship device. This also happens to be among the most efficient processors currently on the smartphone market.
The smaller variant could also be bundling a RAM of 3GB just like the regular Mi 5 edition, though this will be 1GB less than the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro, which is the high-end version of the the new Mi 5 line-up. Akin to the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship, the Mi 5 Mini is said to come with an internal storage of 32GB, which is double the memory offered by the iPhone SE.
However the two devices differ when its related to display, with Mi 5 Mini boasting a 720p HD while the much larger version delivering a 1080p HD display backed by a pixel density of 427 ppi.
Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini features
Xiaomi impressed us all with the ton of features that it brought with the Mi 5 flagship, and thanks to the rumor mill, most of the speculations suggest that the Mi 5 Mini could greatly resemble the bigger version (fingers crossed!).
The Mini 5 device could reportedly come with the same 13 megapixel camera panel as the one complemented on the standard version, so you can expect a pretty much similar experience.
We are also hoping that the new device will feature some of the Mi 5's powerful camera elements such as the image stabilizer and the 4-axis camera rotation.
Additionally, it wouldn't be so bad either if the Xiaomi Mi 5 Mini drew a little influence from the Mi 5 Pro, most specifically the ceramic back design. This would make the compact handset even more alluring.
