As we promised a few days ago, we’ll be keeping you posted on developments related to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and its release for Samsung devices. We have seen Sammy teasing the Lollipop update for the Note 4, but new reports seem to indicate the company confirming to roll out one of the most awaited updates – Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S4.Although such assertions cannot be substantiated, sources close to the South Korean tech giant confirm that the S4 is still under Google’s 18 month update guarantee period, and that it will be getting Lollipop early 2015. Even if these reports are true, the timeline could still change based on many factors. Once rolled out, Lollipop will be the third major update for the S4, after Jelly Bean and KitKat.The reports further imply that the S4 Exynos Processor Variant (GT-19500) will be the first to receive the update. There has been no information on the update for the handset’s Snapdragon 600 processor. These developments come as Google started releasing the latest version of the Android OS to Nexus handsets. Although features of Lollipop are not explicitly clear, there are expectations that the device will come with the new TouchWiz UI. One of the other recent Galaxy device models, the S5, is set to get Lollipop December – according to leaked reports.Other smartphone OEMs have been announcing Lollipop release dates for their flagship devices. HTC has already revealed that four of its devices will be getting an update officially, while Sony has said its Xperia Z line of devices will be upgraded to the latest Android OS.Another large smartphones manufacturer, LG, also confirmed that an update for Android 5.0 Lollipop will be availed for its G3 flagship in Q4 2014. As different manufacturers release information on updates for the new Android OS, we’ll keep you posted.
