User Experience

The All-rounder OneOdio Headset comes with a sturdy build and a comfy over-ear design that makes it extremely comfortable to wear. The earcups do not have large spaces between them so they do press on the ears after long-term usage. The padding is really soft.

When it comes to material choice, it is made out of plastic. While it does provide a lightweight headset, it does not provide the strength that metal does. Nevertheless, the extending headband is a metal strip to give you extra support where it is needed the most. It is smooth in sliding and shaped such that it doesn’t snap or bend the wrong way. The rest of the joints are very articulate with smooth movements. You can also turn the earpieces by 180 degrees.

This OneOdio model does not feature a microphone specifically for taking calls. However, you do get a simple button mic with the included wire extension. For connectivity, you get to choose from two ports. You can connect this headset using a 6.35 mm or a 3.5 mm jack. It does not offer Bluetooth connectivity, so you cannot use it wirelessly.

The coiled wire range is around 3 m, which can be extended by 1.2m with the extension. This allows you to move freely near your equipment while wearing them, without any disturbance in the audio quality. Lastly with the 32 Ohms impedance and wide frequency range, it covers most audible sounds. In short, it is an excellent budget-friendly option for beginners.

Audio-Technica ATH-M20X - Best Headset for Studio and Podcasting

The Audio Technica ATH M20X is another studio headset for under 50$. Offering average sound and build quality, it is a good startup headphone for podcasting and small home studios. Unlike the rest of the headphones in the ATH-M series, the earcups of this headset have a black, matted Audio Technica Logo and a rather simple design.

Other than the looks, it is an affordable entry into the world of powerful stereo sound.

Now let’s get to the construction. The M20X features thick plastic material for the most part, except for the metal reinforcements. The headband padding is similar to the other headsets of the ATH-M series. However, if you are also going for the studio headset “looks”, this device feels a bit lacking or cheap.

The earcups are padded with vinyl around the drivers and do not give easily. This is to protect the wire and ears however after a few hours of constant use, this does not make you feel comfortable. The clamping force of the headset however is quite tolerable and does not press onto your ears.

When it comes to flexibility, there is not much offered here. The earcups rotate a little to efficiently distribute weight. These cannot be folded. Now onto the technical details. The ATH M20X has good isolation depending on how the earcups seal the sound around your ears. The sound quality is also good for the price. While you do not get to experience a lot of high and low sounds, the bass in the middle is nicely distributed.

In short, there is less sensitivity but good coverage of the overall sonics. With these features, this headset is suitable for editing most songs and recordings. One of the best studio headphones under 50 for good reasons.

Things to Know Before Buying the Best Studio Headphones Under 50

Studio Headsets are designed to last long and provide extremely delicate sonic, so we can explore the depth and flaws in sound. It is not meant to provide an immersive sound experience and rather should produce the sound exactly as it should be.

As there is lots to consider when it comes to musical equipment, we have compiled a list of useful characteristics you can consider to narrow down your search.

As compared to other headphones, these are taken on and off constantly and therefore also need to be comfortable and durable. This requires quick adjustability, soft clamping force, and a large earcup diameter to surround the ears. When looking for a budget studio headset, you will find many options that feature complete plastic construction.

For best results, it is recommended to go for a combination of metal and thick plastic. Plastic does not put unnecessary weight on the head, and the metal strip and adornments ensure the headset doesn’t snap after long-term usage.

Audio Quality

Studio headsets are mostly used to listen to audio and clear its defects or improve certain sounds. Therefore Audio Quality is by far the most important feature in this list. The first thing to note is that the sound should be realistic, whether it is an instrumental or a singer’s voice. You need to get the right tone.

For this, the device needs to get the tones, high and low frequencies, and bass quite close to what it actually sounds like. Consider an option with a broader frequency range, deep bass, and full sonics.

Wired vs Wireless

For gaming purposes or simply listening to music, a wireless headset works great. However, in the case of studio headsets, you need to keep connectivity in mind. The best uninterrupted connection is via a good wire, and therefore, it is recommended to go with a wired option.

Joint and Articulation

As mentioned before, comfort is another important factor to consider when getting a studio headset. These headphones often feature metal construction and thick plastic insulation to enhance their durability. This adds to the weight of the device.

Therefore, no matter how soft the padding is, you will have to take the headset off after a while. This is where joint and articulation come in. For easy adjustment, flexibility and portability, it is best if the studio headset features smooth, foldable joints.

One of the things that make studio headsets different from regular headphones is the pricing. These headsets have an extensive budget range and can be pretty expensive. However, when you buy one, you need to find a balance between the price and functionality. This list features some of the best studio headsets under the $50 tag. You can scroll above and find out which one suits you the best.

A warranty gives you a risk-free purchase. Therefore, if you want to try out a new brand and they provide a warranty, go for it.
