A huge update incorporating Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is on its way to NVIDIA’s original Shield Tablet. According to the company’s announcement, this latest update will include several new features, bug fixes, as well as enhancements to the device’s security.
Among the most interesting new features is the new support for Vulkan API integrated into the Shield Tablet. This means there will be more access to the graphics hardware of the tablet to enhance the users’ overall gaming experience. Additionally, the software upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will introduce a new collection of emoji, landscape mode with newly positioned navigation bars, along with a new camera app shortcut enabled by double tapping the power button.
Some of the issues that NVIDIA has resolved in the Shield Tablet include: its compass functionality, the output issue with Doom 3 HDMI, issues of app transfer to the SD card, as well as GamePad Mapper issues, among others. Also the security patch level has been updated to March 1, 2016.
