The current pandemic has forced millions of people to stay away from their office, university or school, with no real idea of when they will be able to return. If you don’t have work to do however, being locked up in your house or apartment has probably gotten very boring very quickly.

Whether you are someone who spent your free time at the gym, or maybe you’re someone who just liked trying something new every now and then, sitting at home is probably your least pleasurable experience. Luckily, there are a few apps to help you pass your boredom blues.

Streaming Apps

Obviously, while you’re on lockdown, the most obvious thing to do is to sit back and watch a series or watch a movie. These apps are going to be pretty obvious to some, but the best ones to download are Netflix and Youtube.

Netflix is clearly one of the leaders in streaming services. It, along with others like Hulu, allow you to watch one of thousands of TV shows or movies, and with the app, you can watch them anywhere. Yes, you aren’t able to go anywhere, but it’s nice to know you can go sit outside and watch a movie or two.

Youtube is another great one but for slightly different reasons. A ton of individuals and businesses are taking what they do online. You can stream workouts, cooking lessons, even wildlife safaris straight to your phone. Considering the global crisis, a lot of people are moving what they do online to ensure people can still take part.

Reading Apps

This downtime is going to allow you to finally read that book you’ve been delaying starting, or maybe you just want to listen to an audiobook while you relax or do some gardening, there are two apps you definitely need then.

The Amazon Kindle app is without doubt the best one to download. It will give you access to millions of books and audiobooks. All of these are incredibly priced, sometimes free even, and will provide you will hours of reading and listening pleasure.

Apple Books is another reading app you can look into. It is directly integrated into the iPhone and iPad. It doesn’t get updated often, but it doesn’t really need to. You can also buy books and audiobooks directly within the app.

Games

There’s nothing quite like a great mobile game. Yes, some of them are quite bad, to say the least, but there are some gems. Maybe you’re into puzzles, or strategy games or more relaxed games, there is something for everyone.

Call of Duty Mobile is definitely one of the most popular mobile games out right now. You can play the popular game on your phone or iPad, play all the iconic maps, use the same weapons, and there is also a Battle Royale mode that will test your abilities against players from around the world.

If you want something a bit more relaxing, Minecraft is still as popular as ever, and you can spend your free time just building, mining and exploring your minecraft world, all from the comfort of your couch or bed.

Fitness Apps

Currently, many people who love to workout, or want to start working out, can’t get to a gym. No need to fear though, there are many apps to help you get in shape or get fit at home.

The Nike Training app is brilliant for at home workouts. Not only does it have multiple workouts for all fitness levels, needs and muscle groups, it also walks you through them step by step. There are also a ton that don’t require any equipment, perfect for a lockdown workout.

Youtube comes back into this category as there are so many fitness professionals who have either become famous through Youtube, or are moving their expertise onto Youtube. You can find yoga classes, bodyweight workouts, and everything in between, all done by knowledgeable professionals.

Hobby Apps

Whether you have a hobby, or looking to pick up a new one, this current time at home is the perfect time to explore them. Maybe you want to learn a language? Or improve an existing skill, there is a hobby for everyone.

Duolingo is definitely the best app if you are wanting to learn a new language. It offers everything from Italian to Navajo, and allows you to learn from the absolute basics and up. The absolute best app for learning a new language by far.

Tik Tok is another great app to pick up if you’re feeling a bit different. The app is full of singing, dancing, a little bit of acting, and if that sounds like a good time to you, download it and start making your own. Its popularity is booming considering so many people are at home at the moment.

These are some of the best apps to help you pass the time during this difficult period. If you aren’t working, it is easy to fall into a pattern of not doing much, but you can easily work out, start learning a new language, or play a game or two, all from the comfort of your home.
