Google Play has reversed its decision to take all iGaming and online sportsbook apps from its Android-exclusive store in a welcome boost for those that like a flutter now and again. From August 2017, Google opted to ease its notoriously stringent anti-gambling stance, giving all betting brands operating under jurisdictions an opportunity to reach out to more potential customers again via Android-powered smartphones and tablets.

Unfortunately, the news is not particularly ground-breaking for the North American band of online casino players in the States and Canada. Google has announced that it will only be accepting applications for the distribution of iGaming and sportsbook apps within its Play store for users in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and France. There is hope that Google may look to ease its restrictions further. The online behemoth stated in recent emails that there is a “possibility of further expansion of the policy change … to new regions and countries”.

The burgeoning iGaming market in Canada and the United States should take heart from the fact that Google has left the option of expanding its policy change to additional territories on the table. Nevertheless, iGaming brands that tap into the Canadian and US markets have found ways around offering native Android apps for download. Many of whom choose to have their native apps available for direct download from their official websites.

In fact, there’s an ever-growing list of real-money Android iGaming apps available for Canadian players. If you’re looking to find a Canadian-friendly online casino that accepts Canadian dollars and offers a variety of slot games and tables games that work on all Android devices, check out the latest slot apps released in 2018. For many years now, Jackpot City has reigned supreme as the leading iGaming site for Canada-based players. They offer an excellent range of deposit and withdrawal methods, over 71 casino titles, as well as video slots with high-definition visuals and immersive gameplay optimized for mobile devices using HTML5 technology.

Nevertheless, there are many other credible alternatives coming up the rails alongside Jackpot City. For instance, Ruby Fortune is a relative newcomer, offering a dedicated Android app and an intuitive app interface that makes it easy to deposit, play and withdraw funds. Meanwhile, Spin Palace remains a credible option for Canadian iGaming customers, with C$1,000 welcome bonuses available for new mobile sign-ups.

Admittedly there will always be some features from playing casino games on a desktop that Android users will miss on their smartphones and tablets. Smaller screens and modest processors mean that some visuals may be distilled to their most basic form in mobile-version slots, for example. Nevertheless, there is still a great range of casino games for gamers to explore on Android devices. iGaming software developers are even working on game-specific applications, such as blackjack apps, that bring the atmosphere and thrill of classic table card games to life.

If Google Play does decide to relax its restriction on iGaming apps to players in Canada and the United States, it will be a welcome relief to developers that they will again be allowed to use the Play store as their primary marketing tool.
