The Android One smartphone platform may finally be coming to the US. That’s based on a new report that claims Google will launch Android One in the USA mid-2017.The story first surfaced at The Information and cited unknown sources. Reportedly, these devices will be fetching between $200 and $300 in the local US market. At this point in time, the maker of the Android One handset in the United States has not been confirmed, but there’s wind that LG could be the first manufacturer to get the deal. Google will, as usual, provide regular OS updates for all Android One handsets for a period of 1-2 years. The same report has alleged that Google plans to fund a massive ad campaign for the Android One platform when it launches in the US. The company might also open up to Android One handsets from other OEM on a case-by-case basis. One of the biggest motivations for Google to introduced Android One to the US is so as to promote its Android brand. Most consumers in this country are aware of Samsung’s Galaxy lineup more than they are familiar with Android itself, and the company is looking to change this situation.Google first introduced Android One in 2014, with the idea of furnishing the third-world markets with affordable Android handsets. The first batch of Android One devices were launched in Asia and Africa, before later spreading to other parts of the world such as Japan and ultimately Europe. So far there’s been mixed sales results for this platform, but it appears like Google is determined to expand this initiative in one of the largest smartphones markets in the world. We’ll closely follow up with this information and see how the company goes ahead with its Android One US launch.
