Samsung Galaxy Note 3Just as the new galaxy Note 3 was available in stores, everybody got their attention on one thing: the region lock. Apparently Samsung region locked the Galaxy Note 3, meaning they implemented a security patch that stops you from using your European Galaxy Note 3 with an American, Asian etc. SIM card, and vice-versa. Though you are still able to use your device in other regions, with the SIM card from home, this can prove to be extremely costly and in no way practical. This region lock has made a lot of people angry, causing them to even return their phones or cancel their pre-orders.However, as it was expected, one very famous Android developer, Chainfire, has succeeded in creating an app that eliminates the region lock and allows you to use SIM cards from other countries. He explains how the region lock as follows:
The region lock is implemented in the form of a network blacklist. Beware that this is not exactly the same thing as a SIM lock, even though they are somewhat related. This blacklist blocks a number of whole countries and carriers, while a SIM lock whitelists one specific carrier. This app clears the network blacklist (region lock), but it may or may not remove the SIM lock, if present.
One condition for you to use this app is to be rooted. However, if you don't have any intentions in rooting your device, you could buy a SIM unlock code for around $20, and this should also remove the region lock, though might not work in all the cases.Check out RegionLock Away on Youtube: You can download Chainfire's RegionLock Away from Google Play for a few dollars (this way you support the developer's work) or you could download it for free, RegionLockAway-v1.0.apk being provided by Chainfire himself.
