Android 4.4 for Galaxy S2Galaxy S2 might get Android 4.4 next year as Google officials indicate extended availability for older models with their latest OS.Google said they want to "make an amazing Android experience available for everybody" with Android 4.4 KitKat. Recent reports indicate that Galaxy S2 may receive Android 4.4, like many other older and less powerful devices might also. This could have something to do with a new kernel version used by the upcoming Android system that allows devices with as low as 512 MB of RAM to run the OS.

Android 4.3 for Galaxy S2 will never come

Android 4.3 on the other hand has very little chances to arrive on the old Samsung flagship with rumors indicating that Galaxy S2 might not even get Android 4.2. It would be a very poor move from Google to deprive all these millions of Galaxy S2 users from the latest software, so this raises the question whether they have been planning to update directly to Android 4.4 all along. This could explain why so few devices have gotten the latest updates in the past months. If Galaxy S2 gets Android 4.4 next year, it could benefit from a lot of goodies. First of all we are talking about features from Android 4.3 that will surely be integrated in the latest release, as well as new features that could really increase performance and stability. We don't know much about the features that are going to be integrated in Android 4.4, with the surest thing being the extended availability for older devices. We also know about rumors off full cloud integration that will allows users to do a full backup of their devices, including text messages, pictures, sounds and so on. This is very similar to what iOS has for a while now.

October 14h is Android 4.4 release date

Android 4.4 KitKat is said to be released this October, on the 14th, together with a new Nexus device. These rumors are getting more and more plausible as many leaked pictures with the upcoming Nexus device have been surfing the internet in the past few days showing Android 4.4 on board.

Android 4.4 Custom ROMs are always a good alternative

Of course, if an official Android 4.4 update for Galaxy S2 doesn't show up eventually, there is always the possibility to install a Custom ROM. With KitKat being on the way this October for Nexus devices we can surely see a CyanogenMod release of their already so famous Custom ROM. And as you know, Galaxy S2 has always been supported by the developer team and this will definitely be the case for Android 4.4. If you haven't been brave enough to install a Custom ROM yet, you should probably start thinking about it as Samsung and Google are giving more and more indications that there won't be any updates coming for GT-I9100.The conclusion is that, Galaxy S2 has very strong chances of receiving Android 4.4 KitKat, judging from the fact that is hasn't received any support for 4.2 or 4.3 and that Google has made the statement about making the OS available for everyone. We all know that Galaxy S2 has brought Samsung such a big part of their profit, so the least they could make is to give it a last but amazing update.
