Graphics Interchange Format, which is more common known as GIF has now become the next best thing that ever happened to instant messaging after Emojis. While the ability to send GIFs with Google Keyboard in Android Nougat is relatively new, GIFs have been a part of the virtual sphere for quite some time.
By bringing this trendy way of sharing content in the form of tiny files, Google is bridging the gap that comes with instant messaging. If you are among the proud owners of an Android 7.1 Nougat device, Google Keyboard is all you need to make your IM game stronger than ever.
How to send GIFs in Google Keyboard
With a Nougat powered device like the Google Pixel in hand, you can go ahead and open any messenger app. While using the messaging screen with the Google Keyboard, locate the Emoji icon at the bottom and tap on it.
The entire set of Emojis will pop up, with the exception of a new GIF button at the bottom-right of the screen. Once you tap on this button, the keyboard area will turn into a mini panel with suggestions of different popular GIFs.
You can simply tap on one of these GIFs and share them with the person you a chatting with. Moreover, you can also use the built-in search function to find a specific GIF that you want to share with your friend.
Users who have already tried out the ability to send GIFs with Google Keyboard have reported that it does work only with a handful of supported apps. However, as Google prepares to roll out consecutive updates for Nougat-powered devices other than Google Pixel, this functionality should catch up soon as well.
