The Android 7.1 Nougat update comes with the new Google Pixel phones. More so, anyone with the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P can try it out. Among lots of incredible features that have come with
Android Nougat, there is a new feature in the settings known as Manage Storage which is worth looking at.You can find this storage manager in the Storage section of your Settings. It has two options; to enable Smart Storage or manually free up some space. These options do different things and perform well with one another.
Enable Smart Storage
This option can be connected to Google Photos as it automates the ‘free up space’ option in the application. Activating Smart Storage automatically remove videos and photos from your handset after every 30, 60, or 90 days. This option helps you in saving time from having to continually agree to Photos prompt to free space whenever your handset storage is low. However, enabling Smart Storage does not automate all of Android Nougat storage solutions. You will have to use the manual tool for clearing up your device’s space which works as a good complement of Smart Storage.
Manual cleanup
This manual cleanup is found in Settings > Storage > Manage storage. Clicking ‘Free up space’ opens a list of potential items that need to be removed in two categories including, download and apps, photos and videos. You can exclude or include any of the categories through the check boxes. Select files you want to get rid of and the tap the free up button. Once you have gotten rid of some content you will be prompted to activate Smart Storage which you can opt.All in all, this feature offers a good storage management experience while still providing users with a total control of their handsets.
