Do you love your favorite app’s icon? It’s common that good apps have
ugly icons. So every time you need to launch the application, you can’t help but shake your head wondering what the app designer was thinking. Most android users result to hiding ugly icons in folders so that they don’t have to look at them anymore. The good news though is that you can actually change the app icon without having to transform yourself to a tech geek.
Apparently, some developer was so pissed at the ugly icon issue that they decided to create a fantastic new app to solve this problem, altogether. Going by the name ‘Awesome Icons’, this crazy new app simply creates shortcuts. All you need to do is select a target app, type a label, and you’ll have a new app shortcut on your Android smartphone’s home screen. You have the ability to move these shortcuts around in docks, folders, and on your home screen.Awesome Icons was developed by Momo Apps. As of now, the app appears to be somewhere between 100k and 500k downloads, with an average user rating of 4.1. Users can download app icons from the Google Play store and use any of them free. You also have the option to select pictures from your phone’s gallery, or even take camera snaps for new icons.
Using the app
When you launch Awesome Icons, you’ll see a list of installed apps, with a carousel of various icons available from installed icon packs. Once you tap one, you get the shortcut creation screen, from where can easily view what app you’re actually linking to. You’ll also be able to change the label so that it reads something custom rather than the default name of the app. To finish this, hit OK then navigate back to your home screen where the new shortcut will be waiting for you.For purposes of theming, you can dim the rest of the screen so that the icon stands out. This helps you choose the right icon for darker themes. You can also weed out icons that won’t fit with your theme, maybe because they are too dark or too bright for normal view visibility. If you plan to create a different icon from the ones available in the carousels, simply tap on the + sign located in the top bar. This opens a blank custom shortcut from where you can choose any app and icon that you prefer.
Hide your apps from prying eyes
In addition to being a great way to change ugly app icons, Awesome icons is also a brilliant way to hide apps that you don’t want other people seeing on your smartphone’s home screen (for instance, adult and banking apps).Awesome icons delivers beautiful shortcuts for apps on your home screen, but it doesn’t change the icons on your app drawer. But if you have cut icons on your home screen, why would you need to still seek out the ugly stuff in your app drawer?
