From antennae cell phones to advanced computing devices – that’s how smartphones have evolved over the last one decade or so. Today, there’s no limit to what you can do with your phone. Most of the times, all you need to do is hit the Play Store and download a new app. You can even improve your life by relying on a selection of the best self-help smartphone apps. And that’s just part of it. Below are 5 ways you can innovatively use your smartphone.

Infrared Control

Did you know that most Android phones available today have infrared blasters? Yes, this means they can control just about anything that responds to IR signals. All you need to is to find the right app. You can program it to control your set-top box, TV, etc. Android users can get started with Peel Smart Remote, which is an essential app. Just browse the inventory of Infrared Android apps available to see what you can get to make your device a handy control tool.

Recording Studio

If you’re a musician or someone who harbors interests along those lines, you can utilize your smartphone to record stuff. For instance, apps such as Walk Band and FL Studio Mobile let you import and export tracks from desktop solutions. Although these are premium apps, they can come in handy if you know what you’re doing.

Identify Songs

You just heard that song while passing by an electronics shop, but can’t figure out the artist’s name so you can download it later when you get home. Worry no more. All you need is to get your smartphone out of your pocket, launch an app and let it listen to a section of the song playing. Within just a minute (or two), you’ll have all the details you need about that song, including the artist name, album, song name and even download link. Sounds awesome? Sure is. Take a look at Sound Hound, perhaps the most popular Android app for this.

Heartrate Monitor

Smartphone selfie cameras can be used as a mirror. That’s a basic one. You can also use your camera flashlight as a handy torch whenever you find yourself in a dark basement or store. That’s not where it stops. Modern smartphones can rely on both the camera and flashlight to serve as a heartrate monitor. All you need to do is place your finger on the camera lens and flash, and an app decodes your pulse to give you a beats-per-minute value.

Smart Functions

A smart home or a smart car? For both, you need the right app on your smartphone. Leading producers of home accessories are creating products that can be controlled wirelessly towards the goal of an interconnected home. That means you can turn your Phillips Hue bulb on using your smartphone, or even change the color of the lighting. In the same way, a company called Viper lets you start your car using your phone. There’s no end to what you can accomplish this way.Realize that you can use your smartphone to do a lot more? You only need to download an app and then launch it.
