Please note
- Keep in mind that this procedure will erase your device. Thus, you should backup everything you consider important.
- You’ll need a Windows PC to get this accomplished.
- While this rooting process will give you root access, it won’t allow you to flash custom ROMS. Any attempt to flash a custom recovery might end up hurting your phone.
- Disable secure boot in Settings>Lock Screen
Step 1 – Setup ADB and USB Drivers
- Download Samsung drivers here and install them.
- Navigate to Settings>About Phone then tap on the build number consecutively till you have enabled developer mode.
- From Developer Options, enable USB Debugging.
- Plug your device in via USB then set up ADB. Installing ADB should be an easy process and takes no more than 30 seconds.
Step 2 – Flash rooted boot image using Odin
- Download Odin here and save it on your Windows PC.
- Download the particular rooted boot image for your specific smartphone model below and then save it to your Windows PC.
- Extract Odin then open it.
- Turn your device off then turn it back on by pressing the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons simultaneously till you get the Download mode.
- Click on AP then select the .tar file that you downloaded for your device.
- Click Start then wait for your device to flash and reboot.
Step 3 – install SuperSU
- Download SuperSU installer then save it on your Windows PC.
- Once it downloads, extract it.
- With your device still plugged in, double-click the root.bat file then wait for it to flash your handset.
- Once that’s done, launch SuperSU on your Galaxy smartphone and IGNORE the option to update the binaries. Otherwise, you might hurt your phone.
