Back from its very initial release, the PlayStation console line has been defining the very concept of console gaming and the amazing milestones it can achieve.  Until recently, PS4 was their flagship console where developers and gamers would synergize and pour their hearts out into exploring the endless opportunities it offered. But even PS4 seems like a thing of the past since Sony recently unveiled the PS5 console in all its glory. This marvel happened during The Future of Gaming event on the 11th of June and everyone is super excited about it.

Set to be released at the end of 2020, this could be just the break this tiring year needs right now (considering all that we went through this year so far). In this article, we will highlight some key aspects of the console itself as well as the beauty and the possibilities it offers to its developers and gamers. So without further ado, let us begin!

PS5 – Design Elements

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Sony nailed it with PS5 in the design department. The smooth and curvy black and white combo for the plastics complemented by the blue lighting seems sleek and soothing at the same instance all the while adding the premium vibe to it. The company unveiled two consoles, one standard edition with a 4k Blu-Ray disc drive and the digital edition which lacks the drive but resultantly is more compact.

Both the consoles house USB-C charging ports for the controllers and additional add-ons like an HD camera, media remote, and the PS5 headset can readily be installed. The UI of the console is also set to be revamped entirely as indicated by Sony. We are glad that Sony switched from the all-black console idea as with its previous entries and gave us something unique while presenting this console.

PS5 – Specifications

The device is set to hold an all-powerful AMD Zen 2-based CPU housing 8 cores.  The graphics will be handled by a 36 CU GPU with a variable frequency of about 2.25 GHz. This is significantly strong if we compare to the bulk of cards under AMD’s Radeon series. The architecture of the GPU is RDNA 2 based and offers real-time ray tracing features that developers can use to vastly enhance the titles offered.

PS5 will be the first console so far to come with a preinstalled 825GB SSD with a raw bandwidth higher than most SSD’s available in the market right now. The company will be using a custom flash controller on this drive to reach up to 5.5GB/s bandwidth which is indeed amazingly awesome.

Fortunately, you will able to play your favorite PS4 titles on PS5 through USB HDDs. As stated earlier, the console also comes with a 4k Blu-Ray disc drive (not the digital version).

PS5- Digital edition explained

The digital edition from the company indicates that Sony understands the changes in global dynamics where everything and everyone is online. That being said, we understand that swapping games between friends and colleagues is going to be a huge issue especially spending money on every single title we want to play will empty our pockets. Yeah! Several amazing titles are coming our way the details of which we will discuss in a while.

On a happier note, the digital edition does look sleeker without the drive and we also expect it to priced relatively less as compared to the standard version which is indeed an incentive for players that generally make digital game purchases. But make sure you have an internet connection strong enough to support your cause here since you will be downloading massive chunks of data online. Also, let's not forget that future gaming will need connectivity support to offers immersive multiplayer experiences. Therefore, having something like Spectrum or Xfinity internet is a must. Make sure to go through some comprehensive Spectrum Plans to aid your gaming lust.

PS5 – Dual Sense Controllers

The amazingness of the PS5 will be supported by the Dual Sense Controllers (that’s what the company calls them), which is a change from the DualShock series as one would expect. The newly introduced color combo is a part of the controller as well. The L2 and R2 buttons support haptic feedback as Sony wants the players to experience the tension within the games and become a part of them.

The controllers also come with built-in microphones to communicate with your team members or for a friendly chit-chat if that is your thing. The notorious “Share” key has been replaced by a “Create” key which is located at the same spot as its predecessor and offers sharing opportunities like before but there are certain additional features that will be connected to this key which Sony hasn’t unveiled as of yet.

PS5 – Games to play

The June 11th event gives us a comprehensive look into some of the amazing titles coming our way with the PS5. Among the dozens of games showed, some blew our minds to new extremes and we cannot wait to get our hands on them.

The first title that we want to talk about (which was unveiled at the climatic end of the presentation) is none other than the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. Horizon Forbidden West will introduce the players to next-gen graphics as we got to witness dreamlike sun-kissed beaches, reefs, and immersive plains all the while staying true to the robotic dinosaurs and creatures from the original game that we fell in love with.

Another reveal that got us franticly happy is the 8th upcoming title from the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil: Village will take gamers back into the European setting and feels just like we witnessed in Resident Evil 4. This long-awaited comeback from the series is bound to attract the masses and from the looks of its trailer, it is going to be amazingly frightening.

Additional unveils included Spider-Man under Insomniac Games where players will get to play Mile Morales as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and venture forth in an open world full of opportunities. Other notable unveils included Demon’s Soul (PS5 remake), Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Godfall, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Hitman 3 to name a few.

PS5 – Price

Sony hasn’t unveiled the price for its upcoming console mainly because we think that they are still deciding on a suitable price tag. Different rumors are floating around regarding its initial price tag though and we could expect it to fall somewhere between 499$ to 599$. That being said, we are hoping that the console gets released ASAP so we can get lost in its beauty and bounties.
