Most Android users never try and explore beyond the pre-installed Android OS on the device. For those who are curious or have come across Android’s most popular ROM, here is a guide on how to properly install it on your smartphone device. CyanogenMod is a customized version of the Android OS that gives you advantages such as the power to control your device and its operating system, calibrate the screen settings, gesture functionality among other advanced settings. For this to work you can either root your device or download official apps that come in handy for unrooted devices, simply enable app downloads from unknown sources on your phone’s Security Settings. Once you are done, on your phone or tablet’s browsers, go to http://get.cm and follow the instructions that appear. Simply click on the notification for the APK download and begin the process. The application has detailed instructions that help you prepare your device for the CyanogenMod installation process; such as how to enable USB debugging. Alternatively, you can choose to focus on the desktop app. Though it is still developed there is a Mac version and official Windows installer. Simply connect your device using a USB cable and follow the guide to have your device up and running on CyanogenMod.
