Anticipation continues to grow for Asus’ unveiling of the third-generation of their ZenFone device line-up set for May 31st at its Computex 2016 event.
Ahead of the launch event, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen spoke to a Taiwanese media giving a glimpse of what to expect from the next ZenFone 3 family, revealing that they would be launched in June. Although Asus’ Computex Zenvolution event is usually held between May 31st and June 4th, for this year, the event is scheduled to start on May 30th. This probably means that the first part of the event will be focused on Asus’ laptops and other tech gadgets, while the later date will see the ZenFones unveiling.
Asus has in the past partnered with Intel for the provision of chipsets, but since the chipset vendor took its leave from the mobile industry, Asus has had to look for other alternatives. According to Asus’ CEO, the company plans to move towards processors from either Qualcomm or Mediatek, with 90% of its devices set to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC.
Shen hinted that a few of the upcoming variants will include the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and the ZenFone 3 Max, with the latter making up almost two-thirds of the overall ZenFone 3 shipments. He also added that the devices will land in different stores across six countries by August.
In relation to their competition, Shen stated that its major rivals in the Chinese market will be Oppo and Huawei. Apparently, the revenue for Asus’ smartphone grew to over 40% on year in the first quarter of 2016, thanks to strong sales in Brazil, Europe, Russia and Southeast Asia. It could also be the fact that Asus’ ZenFone line of smartphones provide excellent specs at pocket-friendly price points.
Based on earlier reports, perhaps some of the Qualcomm processors that will power the yet to be launched ZenFone could include Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 615.
