Android apps that are major battery drain culprits

Some apps are just dreadful when it comes to power efficiency. AVG (a security software pioneer company) has named and shamed apps that are sucking the life out of our smartphones. You will be very surprised to see some popular apps on the list that are said to drain your battery at an astonishing rate.AVG also went further to differentiate the apps that are turned-on by users and those that automatically run at start-up. Apps run by the user include Spotify music, Snapchat and Amazon shopping. On the other hand, apps that run at start-up include Google play service, Facebook pages manager, and Facebook on top of the list.But Facebook is not the only app to make it big to the ‘culprit’ list. The Security Software Company pointed out that some of the clean-up types including the clean master, indeed put more strain on speed, battery, data traffic, and storage consumption.Yuval Ben (chief Technology officer) said “surprisingly, these tools and security updates aimed at improving Smartphones devices were, in fact, affecting it quite heavily.”Whether your device is an Android phone or iPhone, I think there is one thing all Smartphone users can agree on; and that is Smartphone’s batteries don’t last long enough. We enjoy running our favorite apps, but quickly get irritated upon how the battery percentage drops when using our Smartphones.

Here are the “unexpected” worst apps in terms of battery drain

a)      Amazon Shopping

The Amazon app shocked a lot of users being on this list. Apparently, Amazon isn’t doing enough to optimize its app for Android smartphones, and that’s why it ranks among the most dreadful apps that drain your battery.

b)      Snapchat

With Snapchat you just can’t get enough of taking and sending pictures to your family/friends, right? Yes, it’s “super popular”, but at the same time, it’s “super needy” especially when it comes to dominating all your data. In addition to that, it also takes enormous space in your Smartphone’s internal storage.But you can enable Snapchat’s Travel Mode in your account settings to alleviate the problem.

1. Google Play Services

There have been reports that Google play service app may be draining battery across Marshmallow, Lollipop, and KitKat on many Smartphones.This app is the key to Google’s mobile world. It performs a bunch of activities for instance…..it delivers:

• Maps as well as location settings to map-based apps.
• Ads to apps that host ads.
• Gmail to email apps.

In the future, we hope that Google is going to do more to improve the power efficiency of one of its most critical Android framework apps.
