With the new Pixels, Google has taken a huge step away from the Nexus flagships. While it is still committed to providing updates to the previous Android handsets, and while the Android 7.0 Nougat will have lots of similar features on the Google Pixel, there are some differences too.The Pixels were launched with Android Nougat, the first phone to do so, bringing a whole range of new and incredible features. From the hidden settings like sweet new gestures to System UI Tuner and even the Google Assistant Easter eggs, there is a lot to know about your new Google Pixel smartphone.

Use Wi-Fi Assistant to get a secure access to any open network

Google has established a massive database of fast and reliable networks as a part of the Fi cell service project. But even if you are not using the Google’s carrier network, you can use one of these open and free hotspots by activating the ‘Wi-Fi Assistant’ feature. This feature can even tunnel the internet traffic through VPN so that it can be entirely secure.

Activate Fingerprint Swipe for your notifications

Most phones have a fingerprint scanner that goes unused once the device is unlocked, however, this is not the case with the Google Pixel. This device has a feature known as ‘Swipe for Notifications’ that allows you to use the finger scanner as an effective way of viewing quick information on any screen. This feature is easy to enable.

Activate System UI Tuner

Starting with Android Marshmallow, stock Android has a hidden menu referred to as ‘System UI Tuner’ that allows you to tweak several aspects of your device’s interface. This feature has been expanded to the Android version that comes with the Google Pixel. This is definitely one of the important features you should activate to customize your phone.

App action shortcuts.

Just like in the iOS with the Force Touch quick actions, a lot of Android Nougat applications have shortcuts too. You are only needed to tap and hold a stock application such as Dialer, Messenger, Camera or Calendar. It brings up a quick action list above the icon.

Play the Android 7.1 Easter Egg

The Nougat’s Easter Egg is different from the Flappy Bird style games. In this game, you have to try and catch a cat by choosing a tasty treat. To play this game, go to the Settings > About phone > Android Version. Tap the Android version continually till the Android N screen shows up.

Make use of the Night Light feature

When using your smartphone late in the evening, it might be irritating to see the blue light from your screen glaring on your eyes. While you can easily run the feature manually, it can be a lot more effective when you activate it automatically. For more info about the Night Light feature, click here.

Customize Google Assistant

Google Assistant is among the Google Pixel’s largest selling points – but it can still get better when you know a lot about yourself. You can give yourself a nickname, let it know your home, tell it your favorite sources and work address for quicker directions.
