While Sony had already commenced its rollout of the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to its Xperia Z2 and Z3 earlier this month, the update was only meant for devices with specific model numbers which were registered to participate in the Sony Marshmallow beta program. The distribution of the Sony Marshmallow update is currently still continuing, with a number of new Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 variants also receiving the update.According to a post by Xperia Blog, the update is being pushed out to various variants of each flagship generation, with the list of devices that have already been updated currently accumulating to 16. The update rollout initially began with the Xperia Z3+, the Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z5 models, and was then followed up by variants enrolled in Sony’s Marshmallow beta program, including Xperia Z2 (model number D6503), Xperia Z3 (model number D6603), and Xperia Z3 Compact (model number D5803); which got there updates a few weeks ago.It appears that the only device missing out on the Marshmallow update is the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. This new wave of updates is rolling out to devices such as: Xperia Z2 (model number D6502), Xperia Z2 Tablet (model numbers SGP511, SGP521 and SGP512), Xperia Z3 (model numbers D6646 and D6653), Xperia Z3 Compact (model number D5833), and Xperia Z3 Dual (model number D6633).The Marshmallow upgrade will bump up the software version of the devices to 23.5.A.0.570 and will be pretty heavy, with the download weighing just over 900MB.The update will bring the typical Android Marshmallow features such as enhanced app permissions, Google Now on Tap, a native fingerprint support, Doze Mode and much more. Furthermore, it also incorporates a collection of Sony’s own unique features including Xperia Messaging, a newly-introduced camera UI, and Direct Share.
