Custom ROMs provide added features. For example, OmniROM launched an effective multitasking app called OmniSwitch. So instead of using the stock application to multitask on Android Nougat, you get a well-designed interface that allows you to pin your favorite applications, view memory usage, access settings and much more.Fortunately, you do not have to install the whole custom ROM to get this incredible feature. Thanks to wrongway213, a developer, you can now easily install the Custom ROM on Android Nougat. The same OmniSwitch flashable ZIP can work for most handsets, including older Android versions.

Requirements

  • Custom recovery installed
  • Rooted Android handset

Download the flashable ZIP

First, download the OmniSwitch flashable ZIP and then when the download has finished, boot your handset into custom recovery.

Flash the ZIP

After making into custom recovery, create a NANDroid backup. This is simple. You just have to tap the ‘Backup’ button in the TWRP’s menu and then swap the slider at the bottom of your screen. After creating a NANDroid backup, tap ‘Install’ and then navigate to your handset’s Download folder and then hit the OmniSwitchNougat.zip file. After doing that, swipe at the slider that is at the bottom of your device’s screen to install the mod. When that is over, hit ‘Reboot System’.

Customize OmniSwitch

After rebooting the system, open OmniSwitch application. You will find it in the app drawer. To start the app’s service, activate the switch at the top most of the screen. You will be able to see lots of customization options for the OmniSwitch multitasking UI. You can reorder or add buttons, apply icon packs, opt to show the memory usage, and change transparency among other things. In addition, there's this option called ‘Configure drag handle’ entry that you should be properly aware of. This option enables you to adjust the position and size of the area that is to be used to launch the OmniSwitch app.If you hit the ‘Color’ option you will be able to see a ‘Transparency’ slider on the menu to make the area the app is to launch completely invisible.Once you get everything set up, running OmnniSwitch is an incredible experience. It allows you to flip between your recent applications. Moreover, you will also notice quick links for common function and also a grid icon which displays all of the installed application when hit. If you want to add any favorite applications to OmniSwitch, you can do that. The applications can be accessed by hitting the right arrow at the bottom of the menu.

Fix for ‘OmniSwitch Restricted Mode’

If you come across an ‘OmniSwitch Restricted Mode’ notification after activating the OmniSwitch, there is a simple solution. Download and install the Lucky Patcher and grant the app Superuser access. Then go to the Toolbox tab found at the bottom most of your device’s screen, and then tap on the ‘Path to Android’ option. Check the box that’s next to ‘Disable the signature verification in the package manager,’ and tap ‘Apply.’ The device reboots automatically and the issue will be solved.
