Google Play Services is responsible for everything that the Google Play Store is capable of, whether its syncing, push notifications or access to API. Through it you are notified when you need to have your apps updated, along with releasing the latest security features and settings for your location. This is one of the major reasons the Google Play Services should always stay up to date. Its newest updated version is Google Play Services APK 8.7.02. Google Play Services 8.7.02

This update was seen in March 1, 2016, it is currently the latest Google Play Services version and brings with a handful of improvements. One notable improvement introduced with Google Play Services APK 8.7.02 is that it applies Chrome Custom tabs within the Google app. With Custom Tabs enabled, links from Google Now cards are now opened by your Android device and rather than having you redirected to the Chrome app, the Google app does the searching in a minimized version of Chrome found within the app. Unlike the Chrome app, these custom tabs use less RAM and CPU, which means that web content is loaded much faster. September 2, 2015: Google Play Services 8.1.05

Following a batch of updates for Google Play Services which included a boost to the Play Services 8.1 up to an 8.1.02 version on August 29, a v.8.1.04 bump on September 1 until the v8.1.05 update was released on September2.

How to Install Google Play Services

First, confirm your version of Android. Simply head into Settings >> About Phone >> and check the Android Version option. Next, you will need to enable Unknown sources on your device. This will enable you to install apps from other sources other than the Google Play Store. Go to your phone's Settings, navigate to Security and look for Unknown Sources and tick the box. You will now need to find a Play Services version that is right for you. This where the version number of your Android is applicable. Each version of Google Play Services features a suffix with three number at the end, after an hyphen. The three numbers include the Android version, CPU make along with dots per inch/ DPI. To check your current Google Play Services version, go to Settings >> Apps >> All tab >> Google Play Services. The Android version is the first number, and goes as follows: 0 for Android 4.4.4 and lower; 2 for Android 5.0 to 5.1 (beginning with a v8.0 Play Services); 4 for Android 6.0 or higher, it is worth noting that 4 is equal to Android 5.0 as well as 5 for Google Play Services versions before the 8.0 version; 7 equal to Android 5.0 with Android TV being equal to 8. Your CPU architecture is usually the second number with 1 being equal to armeabi, 3 for armeabi-v7a, 4 for arm64-v8a whereas 7 is equal to x86. Finally, the third digit is your Android display's DPI with 0 being for universal, 2 for 160 dpi, 4 for 240 dpi, 6 for 320 dpi and 8 for 480 dpi. You can download the Google Play Services APK to your phone, by simply selecting the right version of Google Play Services based on these three numbers.
