While Google continues to tease around the idea of a modular Android smartphone, LG took a brave step and released the G5. The all-metal chassis of the LG G5 seems even more impressive, considering its unique modular construction. The South Korean tech giant has always been a risk taker which don’t always pay off, as it is in the case of LG Flex. The latest flagship smartphone comes with several unique features, which have been highlighted in this post as the best LG G5 tips & tricks so far.
Customizable Always On display
DID YOU KNOW: Updato offers seamless and guaranteed phone unlocking for any device, carrier and region! It's quick and easy - try it now.
Although the LG G5 comes with an LCD display, it comes with the Always On feature found on many high-end smartphones. Always On does take a chunk of your battery life (much more than Samsung’s AMOLED display), but it all depends on how useful you find the feature.
To customize the Always On display on your LG G5, head on to the Settings app and top on the Display tab. You will see a toggle button on the top to activate Always-on mode, along with a configuration option. Apart from display time (default option), you can configure the Always-on mode to display a line of text of your choice.
Using the Smart Settings
LG G5 comes with the Smart Settings feature to help you create a specific profile for you, depending on your location. Basically an automation feature, this could help you save a lot of time, without having to dig into the settings multiple times in a day.
You can find the Smart Settings tab within the top section of the Settings App. Smart Settings activates the sound profile, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings for you, by automatically acquiring your location. You can also use Smart Settings to launch a particular app whenever headphones are inserted or the phone is connected to another Bluetooth device.
Volume key shortcuts
The volume keys on the LG G5 have been configured to work even when the display is turned, which makes them perfect for shortcut commands. To configure the volume keys for shortcuts, open the Settings app and scroll down to find “Shortcut key” tab. The features are enabled by default, but reading the quick manual within the tab will help you understand exactly what they can be used for.
Although the shortcuts are not completely configurable, there are some predefined options for you to choose from. You can double-press the volume up button to activate LG Capture+ (quick note app). Whereas pressing the volume down button twice activates the camera app for you to take a shot instantly.
Wide angle camera shots
One of the selling points of the LG G5 is the dual camera, which is so much more than just a novelty feature. For photography enthusiasts, the second camera is the perfect tool for taking wide-angle shots, bringing the best out of each picture.
The 16MP camera comes with 75-degree field of view, while the second 8MP camera has an amazing 135-degree field of view. You can easily switch between the two lenses by tapping on the on-screen icons at the top of the viewfinder.
Go Modular with the G5
Last but especially not the least, one of the top features on any LG G5 tips & tricks list is its modular capability. Although the modular components are limited and just “not there yet” they are more than enough to turn a few heads. The bottom section of the G5 comes right off with the battery, which can easily be replaced (more juice!).
Other than the removable battery slot, G5’s modular design comes with support for DAC for high-resolution audio and a camera module to provide physical camera control buttons. Moreover, LG comes with QuickCharge 3.0 support, so charging your battery will be faster than ever.
There are plenty of LG G5 tips & tricks involving its innovative camera itself. While the modular design seems like a rough sketch for now, we could hope that Google and other OEM manufacturers find inspiration in the LG G5.
