Finally, that Android phone you’ve been hinting you want as a Christmas gift is now in your hands, but what do you do with your old smartphone? As much as giving it to someone else or even selling it may seem like a great idea, there are many other awesome ways your now old phone can come in handy. Here are some of the things you can reinvent your old handset:

1. Turn it into a Remote Control

You may not know it yet but your Android phone can just as easily be turned into a remote control. If you’ve never tried doing so, consider it as an option for your old smartphone instead of leaving it lying around. There a variety of choices for Android remote control apps in the Play Store that not only allow you to control your TV, but also your PC, DVD player and even iTunes.

2. Make it Your Alarm Clock

So your old phone doesn’t have the ample storage capacity or the processing power that your new phone is embodied with, you could try using it as an alarm clock. Google Play Store offers some useful clock apps worth trying out. A few option apps include Timely Alarm Clock, My Alarm Clock, among others. The can integrate the same phone to your current calendar, and let it act as a reminder for your upcoming events and appointments. While at it via the display settings set up the Daydream mode to turn your phone into photo frame.

3. Use it as a Survival Device

You may download the whole Wikipedia app and have the knowledge at hand for when you may need it. There are also apps like the Survival Guide on the Play Store which provides simple tips for food storage to major tips that could literally save your life. Install an offline Google Map, and also may be a flashlight app, both come in handy when you least expect it.

4. Use it as a Gaming, Media Device or an E-reader device

We all know how power draining playing games on our Android phones can be. Aside from this most games come in storage capacities that take up most of the space that would have otherwise been used for a variety of files. Transform your old Android phone into a gaming device for all your favorite games, or an e-reader gadget for all your favorite nightly e-books or better yet a music player for loading all your playlists. This avoids the need to overload your new phone.

5. Use it as Home Security Webcam

Your device already has all the necessary hardware that can be used to serve as a webcam to keep your home secure. There are a variety of apps available for this task such as SalientEye which features a motion detector and even sends you an SMS or email to alert you about an intruder; also there is the TrackView app which monitors and records videos of everything in sight.

6. Use it as a hotspot or Router
