If you have an old Android tablet or ready to upgrade but you feel bad ditching it, don’t worry. You can make good use of the tablet by repurposing it to something else. Here are few awesome ideas for repurposing your tablet into something new and useful.

1. Kitchen helper

There are a lot of applications that help you cook something delicious. You can download one of the applications or a couple of them and then mount you tablet in your kitchen. Take advantage of such apps especially if you are doing all the dirty work. The tablet can also work in other rooms of your house such as a ‘Bathroom TV’.

2. Security cam

Android tablets are not known for their camera as they tend to capture washed out pics which might not do well for flattering selfies and vacation photos, it will certainly do for a security camera. First, you need to download a security camera application for your smartphone. Once you set it up, you’ll be able to monitor your living room and also control the camera from anywhere from your phone.

3. Universal remote control

You can also repurpose your smartphone into a universal remote control. You can download apps like Chromecast on your tablet to connect to the smart devices in your house such as a Smart TV. Moreover, some tablets have IR blasters with a preloaded remote application. You can also use your Android as a remote control even if your tablet does not have. You will just have to grab a compatible application and you will be good to go.

4. Photo booth

Everyone likes a photo booth. If you like having your photo taken or if you are having a party, you can use your Android tablet as a photo booth.Set your Android tablet by the door, at the backyard or in your living room so that everyone can pose for your camera before going home.

5. Second display

You can turn your Android tablet into a second monitor by downloading an application called iDisplay. The application is not free and you also need an active Wi-Fi connection for it work, but it is cheaper than purchasing a new display for multi-tasking.

6. As an Arduino Shield

When someone says he has started to learn Arduino, I definitely know that they are going to spend a lot of money. While Arduino microcontrollers are not that expensive, the ‘shields’ that connect them are. The purpose of the Arduino shields is adding the functionality of Arduino board by adding connectivity, radios, and sensors options. So, in case you do want to connect the Arduino to the Internet, you need to purchase an Ethernet shield or a WiFi. You can also connect an accelerometer shield. The good thing is that all sensors that you would buy individually are found on an Android device. Most tablets have two cameras, a microphone, a speaker, WiFi, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer. These can be used as shields for adding functionality to an Android board.
