Android 4.4 for Google Nexus SGet Android 4.4 for Google Nexus S with the newly released Custom ROM KitKat Alpha Build. It hasn't been much time since the official version of KitKat was released and we already have the first Custom ROMs starting to pile up. Of course, the devices in the Nexus range will be the firsts to get them, but other devices will follow soon. We have to thank user cn.fyodor from Xda Developers for this ROM.There are clearly many advantages associated with installing Android 4.4 on your Nexus S, and first of all we have to look at the speed and memory improvements. Also the battery usage is said to be much better optimized.

KitKat Alpha Build for Nexus S

The ROM developed by cn.fyodor is not really a work of art, but it's just what we need to get a first taste of the latest update. You will encounter several bugs such as browser rendering not working and others:
  • Apps that use Webview as a built-in viewer will return a black squared screen error.
  • The majority of Google Apps are crashing and not working.
  • Enabling ART run-time will result in lots of Force Closes.
There are also things that work. First of all, the developer is indicating us that the ROM runs pretty fast. You can also make successful calls, use 3G, SMS and WiFi, the Camera works fine, the light and gravity senors also work properly, NFC, CRT off, sdcard and Superuser are all reported to work.
